Speed and manoeuvres
Speed, distance, overtaking and turns are tested both in theory and on the road. We'll cover the principles; always check the specific limits against the current CSDD rules.
Speed and limits
Limits differ for a built-up area, roads outside it and a residential zone. The exact figures are updated periodically — check them on the official CSDD site.
Safe distance
Distance depends on speed and road condition. The principle is simple: the faster you go and the worse the grip, the bigger the gap to the car ahead.
Overtaking
Overtaking isn't allowed everywhere: markings, signs, visibility and oncoming traffic all matter. In questions, look for the prohibiting conditions before you 'allow' an overtake.
Turns and lane changes
Signal early, be in the right lane, and give way to those who have priority. Most mistakes come from preparing for the manoeuvre too late.
Before a manoeuvre
- Check the current speed limits on CSDD
- Keep distance for the speed and weather
- Before overtaking, check markings and visibility
- Signal in advance
- Give way to those with priority
Frequent questions
What are the speed limits in Latvia?
They depend on the road type and change periodically. Check the current figures in the official CSDD rules.
Where is overtaking prohibited?
Where it's banned by signs, markings or visibility conditions. In theory questions, look for the prohibition first.
How are manoeuvres practised on the road?
In lessons with an instructor — parking, lane changes, turns in the real city. That's a skill separate from theory.
